East Branch Organics

Nestled in the High Peaks Region of the Adirondacks, East Branch Organics is an energetic little garden center with a diverse selection of organically grown annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and edibles.  Complementing our luscious plant materials is a well-stocked and imaginative wine and spirits shop, featuring locally distilled spirits and a nice selection of wines. We also have the Craft Beer Center with an amazing variety of hard to find craft beers.  We have everything you need for natural gardening, including organic fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, mulch and garden tools, as well as locally made crafts, pottery and gift items.  Be inspired by our plant materials or allow our knowledgeable staff to assist you in planting your own garden space.

Tom Coffin & Heather Leisher Coffin

Tom & Heather have been working in the landscaping and growing industry since before they first met in 2000. They successfully ran a landscaping business in Nantucket for 10 years before deciding to relocate their family to the Keene Valley area.

After helping to start the first Nantucket Farmers and Artisans Market (NFAM) and helping to manage it, the desire to have a full-time “farmers market” evolved into the purchase of the garden center in Keene. A shared passion for the environment has led to the garden center primarily focusing on organic and natural landscaping practices.

Ann

Ann joined us as our Greenhouse Manager in late March of 2022, just as we were plunging into planting season, and she has been keeping our greenhouses going ever since!

Ann earned a degree in Plant Science and has been working in the horticultural world for many years. She was a landscaper at a wildlife sanctuary in Massachusetts, and more recently she was the Greenhouse Manager at Saranac Lake’s The HHOTT House.

Most of us rely on Ann’s vast knowledge base when a customer approaches us with a gardening question or quandary. We are so lucky to have Ann on our team and we aren’t quite sure what we’d do without her!

Becky

Becky is another incredibly hard-working and experienced member of our Greenhouse Team who has been here at EBO for four seasons. Becky has farmed and gardened for many years. While living in the Albany area Becky planted and harvested flowers and vegetables at a CSA. Later, Becky worked for five years at the Forest Kindergarten in Saratoga Springs teaching as well as running the school’s garden. When Becky first moved to the Keene area she and her family homesteaded for five years and now, along with her work at EBO, she runs the garden at Keene Central School.

Becky is also a gifted artist–she draws and paints, and most recently she has been working with reclaimed wood creating beautiful pieces using stains and acrylic. The veggies here at EBO wouldn’t be as tasty and the floral bouquets would not be as beautiful without you, Becky!

Erin

If you have visited East Branch Organics on a Friday or Saturday, you have probably met Erin who joined us last fall. Erin grew up in Saranac Lake and returned to the High Peaks region last October after living elsewhere for more than 30 years. Erin comes to us with incredible experience in the horticultural profession. She worked as a professional gardener for 12 years in the Boston area and for the past 5 years she was a horticulturist at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in central Massachusetts where her greatest accomplishment was a full redesign of a half-acre formal garden.

Erin is thrilled to be back in the land of starry nights, mountains, cold, clear water and Donnelly’s ice cream!
We are all so fortunate to benefit from Erin’s return to the North Country! Here’s to lots of Donnelly’s ice cream in all of our futures!!

Ellie

Ellie did an amazing job keeping all of our plants healthy last summer as well as working with customers at The Garden Center - and we are thrilled that she will return for another growing season in 2023. Ellie hails from Longmeadow, Massachusetts, but lucky for us, she spends her summers in here in Wilmington. Ellie is attending Syracuse University where she is currently an Environmental Engineering major. Ellie really enjoys spending her days outside at EBO, increasing her horticultural knowledge, and working with our fabulous customers.

Leah

Leah is Landscaping Manager here at East Branch Organics. Leah originally comes from Buffalo and she completed the Master Gardening course out of Cornell. In Western New York Leah owned and operated a small garden maintenance business where she worked extensively with perennials and woody plants. During that time she had the creative freedom to design and maintain gardens for her clients and watch their gardens transform over time. Leah is especially drawn to prairie style plantings and some her favorite perennials that we stock here at The Garden Center include Amsonia (Arkansas Blue Star) and Eupatorium (Jo Pye Weed). Now in collaboration with Heather here at EBO, we have two amazingly talented landscape designers who bring their combined years of experience to many properties in the area.

Leah is yet another gifted artist here at EBO. She works with watercolor and pen & ink, and you can see her work on instagram @good_wandering.

Emily

Emily is our Wine & Spirits Shop Manager as well as our Events Coordinator, and she joined our team in June of 2021 after her move from the coast of Massachusetts. Emily has been publishing our monthly newsletter and is responsible for much of our online presence. She began reviving our on-site events last fall. Emily loves hosting beer and wine tastings, and in conjunction with Erin and Ann she is hoping to host some horticultural events as well. Having recently moved into the role of Wine & Spirits Shop Manager, Emily has been excited to introduce Natural Wines and other delicious wines from small growers to our collection, as well as expand our collection of spirits from small New York State distilleries.
