East Branch Organics
Nestled in the High Peaks Region of the Adirondacks, East Branch Organics is an energetic little garden center with a diverse selection of organically grown annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and edibles. Complementing our luscious plant materials is a well-stocked and imaginative wine and spirits shop, featuring locally distilled spirits and a nice selection of wines. We also have the Craft Beer Center with an amazing variety of hard to find craft beers. We have everything you need for natural gardening, including organic fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, mulch and garden tools, as well as locally made crafts, pottery and gift items. Be inspired by our plant materials or allow our knowledgeable staff to assist you in planting your own garden space.
Tom Coffin & Heather Leisher Coffin
Tom & Heather have been working in the landscaping and growing industry since before they first met in 2000. They successfully ran a landscaping business in Nantucket for 10 years before deciding to relocate their family to the Keene Valley area.
After helping to start the first Nantucket Farmers and Artisans Market (NFAM) and helping to manage it, the desire to have a full-time “farmers market” evolved into the purchase of the garden center in Keene. A shared passion for the environment has led to the garden center primarily focusing on organic and natural landscaping practices.
Abianne
Abianne is the newest member of our full-time team here at EBO, c0-managing our Garden Center. Abi splits her time between the greenhouses/nursery and the Garden Center Shop, getting her hands dirty as well as helping with our website maintenance and inventory.
Abi spent her childhood summers here in the Adirondacks, and she recently relocated from California back to Wilmington where she has been renovating a handmade house that her parents built in the 1970s.
After several years as a producer and editor in documentary film and television in both New York City and Los Angeles, Abi moved to Northern California where she managed a small craft farm that prioritized sustainability and permaculture gardening practices, with an emphasis on building living soils and responsible watershed stewardship. With over a decade of experience growing herbal and food crops in unique and sensitive ecosystems, she brings her knowledge of regenerative gardening and craft products to the customers and community of East Branch Organics.
Ann
Ann joined us as our Greenhouse Manager in late March of 2022, just as we were plunging into planting season, and she has been keeping our greenhouses going ever since!
Ann earned a degree in Plant Science and has been working in the horticultural world for many years. She was a landscaper at a wildlife sanctuary in Massachusetts, and more recently she was the Greenhouse Manager at Saranac Lake’s The HHOTT House.
Most of us rely on Ann’s vast knowledge base when a customer approaches us with a gardening question or quandary. We are so lucky to have Ann on our team!
Becky
Becky is another incredibly hard-working and experienced member of our Greenhouse Team who has been here at EBO for multiple seasons. Becky has farmed and gardened for many years. While living in the Albany area Becky planted and harvested flowers and vegetables at a CSA. Later, Becky worked for five years at the Forest Kindergarten in Saratoga Springs teaching as well as running the school’s garden. When Becky first moved to the Keene area she and her family homesteaded for five years and now, along with her work at EBO, she runs the garden at Keene Central School.
Becky is also a gifted artist–she draws and paints, and most recently she has been working with reclaimed wood creating beautiful pieces using stains and acrylic. You can see her artwork on instagram here: @bjohnsonartwithwood
Emily
Emily is our Wine & Spirits Shop Manager and Events Coordinator. After spending close to 30 years visiting the Adirondacks, Emily moved here permanently in 2021 and began working at East Branch Organics that very summer. Emily loves helping customers choose a delicious wine, and she especially loves introducing customers to wine varietals that they may not be familiar with. Most people have heard of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, but how about a Vermentino, a Brachetto or a Cesanese?! She is especially interested in showcasing wines from small and independently owned wineries in the U.S. and abroad, as well as wines produced by winemakers whose philosophies include growing grapes organically and biodynamically, and she has been excited to bring a range of “natural” wines into the shop. Emily really enjoys hosting wine and beer tastings, as well as planning events such as our annual wreath making workshop and Mother’s Day gardening event. Additionally, she writes our monthly newsletter and assists with our marketing.
Erin
Erin grew up in Saranac Lake and recently returned to the High Peaks region after living elsewhere for more than 30 years. Erin comes to us with incredible experience in the horticultural profession. She worked as a professional gardener for 12 years in the Boston area and for the past 5 years she was a horticulturist at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in central Massachusetts where her greatest accomplishment was a full redesign of a half-acre formal garden.
Erin is thrilled to be back in the land of starry nights, mountains, cold, clear water and Donnelly’s ice cream!
We are all so fortunate to benefit from Erin’s return to the North Country!
Leah
Leah is Landscaping Manager here at East Branch Organics. Leah originally comes from Buffalo and she completed the Master Gardening course out of Cornell. In Western New York Leah owned and operated a small garden maintenance business where she worked extensively with perennials and woody plants. During that time she had the creative freedom to design and maintain gardens for her clients and watch their gardens transform over time, and she has brought those years of experience to her position at East Branch Organics.
Leah is yet another gifted artist here at EBO. She works with watercolor and pen & ink, and you can see her work on instagram @good_wandering.
